Hwy 55 near Glenwood to reopen by 4 p.m.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation will reopen Hwy 55 near Glenwood by 4 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 22. The highway has been closed since July for construction.
This year’s work marked the start of a two-year project to construct an overpass bridge on Hwy 29. Crews realigned Hwy 55, moving it closer to the railroad to minimize the length of the future bridge; reconstructed 160th Street; and built a roundabout at the Hwy 55/160th Street intersection, which is now operational.
Through the winter, traffic will remain on the old alignment of Hwy 55. Crews will return in the spring to tie together the new alignment and switch traffic. They will also then begin construction of the Highway 29 bridge and second roundabout at the Hwy 29/160th Street intersection.
Once completed, the Hwy 29 overpass will eliminate an “at grade” crossing with the Canadian Pacific railway system and address safety and congestion issues. For more information about the project and to sign up for email updates, visit the project website: mndot.gov/d4/projects/glenwoodoverpass.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation appreciates the public’s patience, cooperation, and commitment to safety during this year’s construction.
