High-tension cable median barrier installation begins Wednesday, April 27, on Hwy 51/Snelling Avenue in Roseville, Arden Hills
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Installation of high-tension cable median barrier in the median of Highway 51/Snelling Avenue in Arden Hills and Roseville will begin Wednesday, April 27. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the northbound highway will be restricted to a single lane between County Road C and I-694 until mid-May.
Once work is completed along the northbound lanes of the highway, crews will switch to the southbound side of the road and traffic will be restricted to a single lane on southbound Snelling Avenue in the same area from mid-May through mid-June
High-tension cable median barriers consist of four steel cables mounted on metal posts. When a motor vehicle hits the barrier, the posts break and the cables flex, absorbing much of a crash’s kinetic energy. The cables redirect the vehicle along the median, preventing a cross-median crash and reducing the severity of the crash.
