Hwy 57 detour in Kasson begins May 23 as first year of construction begins
KASSON, Minn. — Hwy 57 in Kasson will be detoured beginning Monday, May 23 as construction for the Hwy 57 Kasson project starts, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The two-year construction project will begin at First Street North and work will advance north to 11th Street NE. The roundabout work south of First Street will occur in 2023. Overall, the project will include the reconstruction of Hwy 57 in Kasson from Veterans Memorial Highway/Dodge County Road 34 to 11th Street NE. Construction of roundabout at Hwy 57 and Veterans Memorial Highway/Dodge County Road 34. Construction of mini roundabout at Hwy 57 and Main Street.
Hwy 57 will be closed between First Street North and Seventh Street North. Motorists will be able to cross Hwy 57 at First Street and at Seventh Street. Seventh Street crossing will be closed July 18 when construction work moves north.
Construction crews will begin work on Hwy 57 including cutting down trees on the boulevard that will be in the work zone and need to be removed because of the changing grade of the road, utility work and sidewalk improvements. Pavement removal will also begin.
Detours will begin as well. Maps of the detour routes can be found on the project website. The detour routes are:
Stage 1A/Stage 1B detour for Hwy 57 traffic traveling north:
May 23 to November 2022
- Turn left on Co. Rd. 34 (Co. Rd. 34 turns into 8th Ave. SW/ Co. Rd. 21)
- Turn right on Co. Rd. 12 which takes motorists back to Hwy 57
Southbound Hwy 57 traffic will use the same detour in reverse.
Stage 1A detour for pedestrians going north:
May 23 to November 2022
- Turn left on West Main St.
- Turn right onto 1st Ave. NW
- Turn right on to 7th St. NW which takes pedestrians to Hwy 57
Southbound pedestrians will use the same detour in reverse.
Open house reminder
People are reminded that an open house meeting is scheduled from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, May 19 at Kasson City Hall, 401 5th Street SE. People can drop in at any time during the gathering to ask questions of MnDOT, the city of Kasson and the contractor, Heselton Construction of Faribault, learn about detours and get information about how to stay connected during construction.
If people are unable to attend, they can go afterward to the MnDOT construction project website to review materials from the meeting.
