Sherburne County invites community to County Road 65 open house May 25

2023 project improves access at Highway 10 and 45th Avenue

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The public is invited to attend an open house to hear about plans for the 2023 project that will improve access and safety on County Road 65 between County Road 8 and Highway 10, Sherburne County. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Haven Township Hall, 4230 45th Avenue SE, St. Cloud. Guests can come and go as they please as there will not be a formal presentation.

The open house will provide guests the opportunity to learn more about the project, see the design, speak with the project team and get an update on what is planned for next year.

Sherburne County, in partnership with Minnesota Department of Transportation, will improve access and safety on County Road 65 between County Road 8 and Highway 10, which includes the use of a Reduced Conflict Intersection (RCI) design at the intersection of County Road 65 and 45th Avenue at Highway 10. Work is scheduled the summer of 2023.

RCIs, also known as J-turns or R-cuts, reduce potential conflict points and increase motorist safety. Drivers always make a right turn, followed by a U-turn, which eliminates the wait for a gap to cross both directions. Studies show a 70% reduction in fatalities and 42% reduction of injuries caused by broadside crashes on four-lane divided highways, like Highway 10. To learn more about RCIs, visit www.mndot.gov/roadwork/rci/.

For more information, contact Sherburne County Assistant Public Works Director/Deputy County Engineer David Roedel with questions or concerns at david.roedel@co.sherburne.mn.us or 763-765-3352.

MnDOT invites and encourages participation by all.
