I-35W weekend closure near downtown Minneapolis begins June 3
Roseville, Minn. – Starting on Friday, June 3, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close both directions of I-35W near downtown Minneapolis as part of construction for the Hiawatha Avenue/Highway 55 project. This work will allow construction crews to safely remove the 7th Street and 8th Street bridge decks over I-35W.
- Beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 3, both directions of I-35W near downtown Minneapolis will be closed through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 6. Motorists will be detoured using I-94 and Highway 280.
- All entrance ramps to southbound Hiawatha Avenue between I-94 and Highway 280 will be closed during this weekend closure.
- The ramp from westbound I-94 to downtown Minneapolis will be closed on Sunday, June 5.
Following the I-35W weekend closure, the 7th Street bridge from northbound Hiawatha Avenue into downtown Minneapolis will remain closed through late September. Motorists will be detoured using northbound Hiawatha Avenue, 3rd Street, Portland Avenue and 7th Street.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
