MnDOT is monitoring Hwy 135 and plans correction in Biwabik
Duluth, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation is monitoring Hwy 135 settlement that occurred after last year’s reconstruction project in Biwabik. MnDOT has been monitoring the settlement and is in the process of inspecting the sewer and storm sewer to ensure there is no damage to the utilities. MnDOT has been working with its contractor and corrections will be completed in the future.
The state will enact a plan to correct the highway as monitoring and site conditions dictate. As conditions change, MnDOT will ensure safety is maintained, including providing temporary patches where applicable. Coordination with the City of Biwabik is ongoing, including discussions about the upcoming July Fourth celebration. A permanent correction could start this summer with final corrections occurring in 2023. There is no cost to the City of Biwabik for these corrections.
