Hwy 55 lane closures between Watkins and Annandale begin August 1

ST. CLOUD, Minn.— Motorists can expect lane closures and short-term delays as crews resurface 14 miles of hwy 55 and repair or replace underground pipes from the Meeker/Stearns county line between Watkins and Kimball to Brown Avenue in Annandale, Stearns County, beginning Monday, August 1.

Work will occur daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on good weather days until mid-October.

Hwy 55 will be reduced to one lane. Be prepared to slow down or stop due to alternate one-way traffic with use of flaggers. The work will be done in segments, so expect the work zone to change and move each day. Watch for heavy equipment and workers.

The project will also update pedestrian sidewalk and ramp approaches along hwy 55 in Kimball and South Haven. Pedestrians should follow signs and stay out of closed areas.

MnDOT advises travelers to always slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution. Other reminders:

  • Never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones
  • Stay alert; work zones constantly change
  • Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment
  • Obey posted speed limits; fine for a work zone violation is $300
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel

When complete, the project will result in a smoother road surface and reduced overall maintenance costs.
