Hwy 301 roadwork, detour begins April 17 in St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Those who travel on Hwy 301 (Minnesota Boulevard) between 15th Avenue SE and Hwy 10 in St. Cloud, Sherburne County, will encounter the road closed and detoured as construction gets underway Monday, April 17. The closure is necessary to reconstruct the roadway and restore the historic wall at the Minnesota Correctional Facility, reports the Minnesota Department of Transportation

The $4 million project will reconstruct Hwy 301 between 15th Avenue SE and Hwy 10, update underground storm sewers and roadside drainage, and restore the historic St. Cloud retaining wall along the north side of Hwy 301 at the Minnesota Correctional Facility.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Detour April 17 to September—Hwy 301 will close to through traffic between 15th Avenue SE and Hwy 10 in St. Cloud. Motorists will follow a signed detour that uses 15th Avenue SE. Note: expect 2023 roadwork on the Hwy 10 and 23 interchange west of 15th Avenue SE in east St. Cloud.
  • Access will be open and maintained for those who live, work or visit within the closed work zone. Expect changes to access, gravel or grooved road surfaces, flaggers, periodic stops, and alternate one-way traffic. Please slow down and follow construction signs through the work zone. Temporary hard closures will occur to reconstruct the road and replace underground structures.

Minnesota Paving and Materials (OMG Midwest) is the contractor for the project. When complete in November, travelers will benefit from a smoother road surface, improved drainage and a preserved historic structure.
