About this project
Two culverts on Hwy 74 in Whitewater State Park will be replaced. Schedules are weather permitting.
- North culvert replacement: Aug. 3 to mid-October 2026
- South culvert replacement: Spring to June 2027
Traffic impacts
One culvert will be worked on at a time, and that area of the road will be closed.
Detour for north culvert (2026):
- If you are north of the work zone, go west on Winona Co. Rd. 39/ Olmsted Co. Rd. 2, go south on Olmsted Co. Rd. 10 and then east on Olmsted Co. Rd. 9/ Winona Co. Rd. 22 which intersects with Hwy 74.
- Travelers coming from the south on Hwy 74 can access most of the park but will need to use this detour to reach Elba.
Detour fo south culvert (2027):
- If you are south of the work zone and want to reach campgrounds (Cedar Hill and Minneiska), Visitor Center, RV sanitation station or Elba, go west on Winona Co. Rd. 22/Olmsted Co. Rd. 9, go north on Olmsted Co. Rd. 10, east on Olmsted Co. Rd. 2/ Winona Co. Rd. 39 which intersects with Hwy 74.
- If you are north of the work zone, you will use the above detour in reverse to reach the picnic areas (North and South), gift shop and Gooseberry Glen.
