Bridge 27100
History and significance
Bridge 27100, constructed in 1967, carries 11th Street South over State Highway 65 in Hennepin County. It is significant as the earliest example of a horizontally curved steel girder in the state. Horizontally curving steel was a design innovation developed to accommodate curved roadway alignments, eliminating the need for numerous substructure units and simplifying form work. This bridge demonstrates this significant advancement in construction materials and engineering design.
