History and significance

Bridge 62814, constructed in 1965, carries the Canadian Pacific railroad corridor over Interstate 94 and an eastbound on-ramp in the city of Saint Paul in Ramsey County. This through plate-girder bridge has an extreme skew (61 degrees) and an exceptional main span length (148 feet) for its type. These combined features were in response to an exceptionally complex set of site conditions and design challenges to cross Interstate 94 in the Twin Cities. The bridge is significant for its complexity in design to provide a crossing at a challenging site.
