About this 2025 project

MnDOT will resurface and update the Hwy 55 bridge that spans the Clearwater River east of Kimball in 2025. Project requires a detour.

Summary of work

  • Replace the concrete wearing coarse on the bridge deck
  • Resurface bridge approaches and make other needed repairs
  • Upgrade bridge railing and steel barrier approaches

Detour ahead

Work is tentatively scheduled for June to mid-September 2025. Dates and times will be available when closer to work start.

Kimball, Fairhaven, South Haven

Hwy 55 will close and detour to all travelers at the Clearwater River bridge between Kimball and South Haven. Detour about 2.5 months

  • Detour uses Stearns Co. Rd. 44 in Kimball to Stearns Co. Rd. 7 in Fairhaven to Wright Co. Rd. 2 in South Haven. Detour map (JPG)
    • Temporary all-way stop to be installed at Co. Rd. 44 and 7 in Fairhaven.
    • Local access open east and west of the bridge closure from Hwy 55.
      • Plan enter/exit route nearest your destination.
  • Before/after the Hwy 55 detour, motorists will encounter period lane or shoulder closures as crews begin or wrap up bridge/detour signage work.

Annandale

Hwy 55 through traffic will be also be closed and detoured around Annandale during this project. Learn more about the Hwy 55 Annandale project
