Key FAST Programs
The FAST Act is the first federal surface transportation act to include intercity passenger rail provisions. For the first time, intercity passenger rail programs have been included authorizing more than $10 billion for intercity passenger and freight rail grants.
Three new competitive Rail grant programs
1. Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair
Total Funds: $997 million over 5 years
To reduce the state of good repair backlog on publicly-owned or Amtrak-owned infrastructures, equipment, and facilities.
2. Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements
Total Funds: $1.103 billion over 5 years
To improve the safety, efficiency and reliability of passenger and freight rail systems
3. Restoration and Enhancement Grants
Total Funds: $100 million over 5 years
To provide operating assistance to initiate, restore, or enhance intercity passenger rail.
