Hwy 169 detour extends into Aitkin, work in town begins May 20

Aitkin is open, access maintained to those who live, work or visit
BAXTER, Minn. – Motorists who travel on Highway 169/210 between Aitkin and Hassman will encounter an extension to the current detour as work begins in the city of Aitkin on Monday, May 20, reports the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The closure will extend west of Aitkin County Road 12/83 (400th Avenue) to the Ripple River bridge. Crews will reconstruct Highway 169/210 and widen the shoulders; add center left turn lanes, walk, curb and gutter; and replace drainage structures beneath the road.
Here’s what to expect May 20 until mid-July:

  • Work zone: Multiple crews and equipment will work along Highway 169/210 between the Ripple River bridge in Aitkin to Highway 210 in Hassman.
  • Detour: Extends into the city of Aitkin and continues through McGregor
  • Aitkin is open: Access for those who live, work or visit within the work zone will be open and maintained. Expect changes to access, gravel or grooved road surfaces, flaggers, periodic stops and alternate one-way traffic. Please slow down, follow construction signs and stay out of barricaded areas.

When the highway is complete this fall, travelers will benefit from a wider, smoother and stronger road surface; improved safety, access and traffic flow; and updated drainage.
