Intersection of Highway 59/Highway 108 west in Pelican Rapids to close June 25 for Stage 1C

Motorists can expect changes to in-town route and additional thru-traffic detour

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—On Tuesday, June 25, weather permitting, the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 108 west will close as construction progresses into Stage 1C in Pelican Rapids, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will switch the in-town detour route for local traffic in Pelican Rapids and an additional thru-traffic detour will also be installed on Highway 34, County Road 23 and County Road 113.
Highway 59 is currently closed south of the Pelican River bridge to Fifth Avenue Southeast. When crews move into Stage 1C on Tuesday, the closure on Highway 59 will extend north of the Pelican River bridge, through the Highway 108 west intersection. In-town traffic will use Fifth Avenue Northwest and First Avenue Southwest across Highway 108 west to connect to the existing in-town detour route. The new roundabout at Highway 59 and Highway 108 east/West Mill remains open as the cross street in town; however, Highway 59 remains closed north and south of the roundabout as work in Stage 1A and Stage 1B continues.
Pelican Rapids businesses are open during construction. Residents and patrons should follow the signed detours for navigation in-town, both for motorists and pedestrians.

Highway 59 and Highway 108 thru-traffic and truck detour routes remain in place, and vary depending on direction of travel.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
