I-35/I-535 single lane closures expected in July

DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close single lanes on southbound I-35 next week and on the I-535 Blatnik Bridge in both directions beginning the following week.

  • 7/2 and 7/3 – Southbound I-35 will be reduced to one lane from Garfield Avenue to 27th Avenue West from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Additional closures will likely occur on I-35 in the coming weeks.
  • 7/8 to 7/25 –The I-535/Blatnik Bridge will undergo single lane closures in both directions between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday to allow for routine bridge inspections and maintenance.

Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

  • Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.
  • Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
  • Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
  • Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
  • Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
