Second Street Southwest lane closure at Hwy 52 July 8-11 in Rochester for curb repair

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists on Second Street Southwest at Highway 52 in Rochester may encounter slowed traffic July 8-11 because of turning lane closures while crews repair curb at the intersection, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Eastbound and westbound motorists on Second Street, as well the East Frontage Road will have turning lane closures, but traffic will remain open. Pedestrians will be detoured from the north side of the Highway 52 bridge to the south side of the bridge to cross the intersection through Thursday, July 11. The curb on the northeast quadrant of the intersection is being repaired.

The intersection is a busy commuter route, so people should make plans for traffic slowdowns through this area.

  • Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
  • Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones.

  • Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
  • Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
  • Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.
