All lanes open, roadwork complete on Hwy 169 Milaca to Princeton
Includes new J-turn access in Pease
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – All lanes are open on both directions of Highway 169 between Milaca and Princeton, this includes the new J-turn access in Pease, announces the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Sept. 27, 2024, marks the completion of the $7.8 million project that began in July to resurface and update Highway 169 from Mille Lacs County Road 36 in Milaca and Mille Lacs County Road 29 in north Princeton (nine miles each way).
Traveler benefits include the following:
- A new, smoother road surface, includes shoulders and turn lanes
- Updated drainage structures beneath southbound Highway 169
- New J-turn access at County Road 8 and Highway 169 in Pease
- Improved safety—updated road markings, shoulder mumble strips and median/shoulder barrier
The County Road 8 detour will lift and signs removed Friday afternoon, Sept. 27. Motorists may encounter a periodic lane closure as crews haul away traffic control devices and complete any tasks into mid-October.
J-turn intersections reduce severe broadside crashes on four-lane divided highways, like Highway 169. Drivers focus on one direction of traffic at a time and always make a right turn, followed by a J-turn.
