Highway 93 Henderson construction update

Public construction meeting scheduled for October 21 in Henderson

MANKATO, Minn. – Construction on Highway 93 between Henderson and Highway 169 is progressing, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Current construction work includes grading and embankment, and nearly 120,000 cubic yards of material has been placed thus far. Wick drain placement, used to accelerate consolidation of soils, is expected to begin this week. Two box culverts were also recently installed along Highway 93. Approximately 557,000 cubic yards of embankment is expected to be placed during the 2024-26 project to raise the highway approximately eight feet.

Construction work will continue over the 2024-25 winter and include excavation, placement of embankment, and bridge work.

The public is invited to attend a public construction meeting on Monday, October 21 from 5 to 6 pm at Henderson City Hall, 600 Main Street. Staff from MnDOT and the contractor will be present to provide an update on the Highway 93 project and answer questions.
Highway 93 has been closed since April 15 with traffic detoured to Highways 169 and 19. Despite significant flooding earlier this year, the project is expected to be complete in late 2026. Schedules are subject to change depending upon weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
The project includes:

  • Raising Highway 93 approximately eight feet, putting it one foot above historic high-water events
  • Reconstructing 3.6 miles of Highway 93 from Highway 169 to Elm St. in Henderson
  • Replacing the Rush River Bridge
  • Constructing an additional overflow bridge to allow for Rush River flood relief

MnDOT reminds motorists to avoid going around barricades or entering the construction area due to safety.
S.M. Hentges & Sons was awarded the project with a bid of $30,606,833.65.
