MnDOT to host public meeting for Grand Rapids/La Prairie corridor study

DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Yanmar Arena, 1401 NW 3rd Ave., Grand Rapids, MN 55744, to share alternatives for the Hwy 2/169 corridor study through Grand Rapids and La Prairie. Doors open at 5 p.m., with a presentation at 5:30.

This corridor study includes Hwy 2 from NW 19th Avenue to NE 7th Street and Hwy 169 from Hwy 2 to the Mississippi River. MnDOT is evaluating existing conditions (traffic volumes, operations and safety) and future conditions that account for growth and anticipated development in Grand Rapids and La Prairie. The study includes collecting existing traffic and safety data and crash analysis, completing a preliminary scan of potential environmental impacts, developing preliminary corridor concepts, providing an estimate of project costs, conducting an evaluation of alternative concepts and selecting a preferred alternative for the corridor. The study will provide intersection and corridor recommendations to increase safety for all traffic and increased pedestrian and bicycle usage to and from destinations on both sides of Hwy 2 and Hwy 169.

Next week, there will also be a community survey on the website and available at the public meeting, asking for feedback on the proposed alternatives. For those unable to attend the public meeting in person, materials will be posted to the project website at mndot.gov/d1/projects/hwy2-169-grand-rapids-la-prairie.
