MnDOT completes Hwy 73 corridor study from Cromwell to Kettle River

DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has published the final report for the Hwy 73 corridor study from Cromwell to Kettle River.

MnDOT conducted the Hwy 73 study from Cromwell to Kettle River in response to the community’s Hwy 73 Action Committee and their passion for advancing improvements within the corridor. This study began in 2023 with public input on existing conditions, followed by safety and traffic analysis.

The corridor study included

  • Performing a safety analysis along the corridor
  • Engaging local partners, organizations and community members to gather feedback on existing roadway issues
  • Developing potential corridor alternatives and cost estimates that address the issues and concerns
  • Identifying environmental impacts for each alternative
  • Identifying potential improvement projects that match the needs of the corridor with available funding

Potential design alternatives were developed for the Hwy 73 corridor, and recommendations detailed in the study can be used to help make future roadway design decisions. No project is currently programmed within the study limits.
