Highway 42 speed limit reduced to 50 mph on portion of road at Eyota
EYOTA, Minn. – Highway 42 motorists in Eyota will see a new speed limit reduction from 60 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour between the Highway 14 roundabout south to the railroad tracks, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
New signs have been placed along this stretch. The speed limit remains 60 miles per hour south of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Railroad tracks on the west side of Eyota to Interstate 90.
The speed limit was reviewed by MnDOT at the request of the city of Eyota. Traffic engineers analyzed a range of factors that are required before submitting the information and recommendation for any changes to the Commissioner of Transportation. In the study, it was noted that the stretch of Highway 42 south of the railroad tracks has limited access, no curb, very few driveways, and very little development on the west side, so it would not be lowered at this time.
