Tree planting begins May 6 along Highway 56 in LeRoy

LEROY, Minn. – Motorists should be alert for a private contractor who will begin planting trees along the Highway 56 in LeRoy on May 6, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews are marking planting locations this week in preparation for the work along the boulevard and other MnDOT right of way through Le Roy. Planting work is scheduled to take about three days, weather permitting.

Trees were cut down in 2024 to prepare for the reconstruction work along Highway 56 during a project that ran from April to November in 2024. A mix of 170 coniferous, deciduous and ornamental trees and sizes are being planted next week.

The final layer of pavement was not done in 2024 and was planned for completion in spring 2025. The final paving and striping work are scheduled to be completed in mid-May. Temporary striping has been in place since last November.
