Overnight Interstate 494 closures in Bloomington start Sept. 18 for bridge deck work

ROSEVILLE, Minn. —ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Crews will close Interstate 494 in both directions between Interstate 35W and Highway 77 for multiple overnight closures beginning September 18, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Starting Thursday, Sept.18 through Saturday, Sept. 20, and Monday Sept. 22 through Tuesday, Sept. 23, I-494 in both directions between I-35W and Highway 77 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. From 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, westbound I-494 between I-35W and Highway 77 will be closed. All ramps in these areas will also be closed during this time.

During the closures motorists will use I-35W, Highway 62 and Highway 77 to access I-494. This closure is necessary for crews to set beams and forms to pour concrete for the Portland Avenue bridge decks.

Then Tuesday, September 23 through Friday, September 26, crews will close I-35W in both directions at the I-35W/I-494 interchange from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

During this closure, motorists traveling southbound on I-35W can use westbound I-494 to southbound Highway 100 to eastbound I-494 to southbound I-35W as a detour. Motorists traveling northbound on I-35W can use eastbound I-494 to northbound Highway 77 to westbound Highway 62 to northbound I-35W as a detour.

This overnight closure is necessary to allow crews to pour the concrete deck for the westbound I-494 bridge.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
