MnDOT reminds public not to push snow onto roads
BAXTER, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds residents that it is illegal to deposit snow on or next to public roads.
MnDOT asks for the public’s help in keeping roads clear, as snow piles can cause drainage issues, drifting, blocked sightlines and unsafe access. Crosswalks, intersections, entrances and exits should remain clean and unobstructed for everyone’s safety.
State law and local ordinances prohibit placing snow on roads, including ditches and rights of way. Violations are misdemeanors, and civil penalties may apply if snow placement contributes to a crash. Liability can extend to both the property owner and the person who moved the snow.
