Southbound Highway 52 lane closure north of Zumbrota begins May 11 for cable median barrier installation
ZUMBROTA, Minn. – Motorists traveling on southbound Highway 52 north of Zumbrota will encounter a lane closure beginning May 11 as crews install high-tension cable median barrier, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Work will take place north of Goodhue County Road 7 and south of Goodhue County Road 9. It is expected to be completed in June. A lane closure on southbound Highway 52 will occur during the installation and motorists may experience traffic slowdowns or delays, especially during peak travel periods during the weekday and weekends.
High-tension cable median barriers are made of three or four steel cables strung on posts. When a vehicle hits the barrier, the posts break and cables flex, absorbing much of a crash’s kinetic energy. This redirects the vehicle along the median, preventing severe or fatal cross-median crashes.
