Traffic impacts
Current
- June 24 - southbound I-35 will be reduced to one lane between Garfield Avenue and 27th Avenue West from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- June 24 through June 28 - northbound I-35 will fully close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. A signed detour will follow the Highway 2 Bong Bridge into Superior and the I-535/ Blatnik Bridge back to Duluth.
- June 24 through June 28 - southbound I-35 will be reduced to one lane between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- July 2 and July 3 - Southbound I-35 will be redulced to one lane from Garfield Avenue to 27th Avenue West between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.
- Michigan Street remains closed between 20th Ave. West and 23rd Ave West.
- Traffic to and from Port Terminal Drive, is being detoured onto Helberg Drive.
- 20th Ave. West between West 3rd Street and 19th Ave. West remains closed.
- All ramps to Hwy 53 and I-535 are closed.
Other work
The Cross City Trail along Lower Michigan Street is closed and detoured for now. The city of Duluth has a detour in place.

I-35
- Summer 2024: Lane closures for finishing work on I-35; Lower Michigan Street will open
Hwy 53
- Fall 2024: Committed to complete Hwy 53/Piedmont Avenue down to 21st Avenue West
- Fall 2025: Goal to complete remainder of Hwy 53 bridges, including ramps connecting to/from I-35 and I-535
I-535
- Fall 2024: Goal to open I-535 four lanes, including ramps to/from southbound Garfield Avenue
- Fall 2025: Contingent on reaching 2024 goal – Complete northbound on/off ramps at I-535/Garfield
