Highway 65 single lane, head-to-head traffic in Ham Lake began today, June 18; Full closure of the highway in East Bethel delayed to July 8

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Rainy weather caused a one-day delay yesterday for the start of work to replace the Coon Creek bridges in Ham Lake. Early this morning, crews began switching traffic to a single lane in each direction on the northbound side of Highway 65 between Bunker Lake Blvd. and 153rd Ave. to begin replacing the Coon Creek bridges between 143rd Ave. and 147th Ave./Andover Blvd.

Single lane, head-to-head traffic will switch to the southbound side of the highway in about three weeks when work is completed on the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain a single lane each direction until bridge replacement is complete on both sides of the road. Work is expected to be completed and the road fully open to traffic by the evening of Sun, July 28.

Rescheduled: Highway 65 full closure July 8-31, 2024
Rain has caused a more significant delay to the start of culvert replacement beneath Highway 65 just south of Viking Blvd. in East Bethel. Work had been scheduled to begin next week but will now begin Mon, July 8.

As culvert replacement begins early Mon, July 8, Highway 65 will be closed and detoured between 187th Lane Northeast and Viking Blvd. Weather permitting, the new culvert will be installed and the road reopened by the end of July.

However, please watch for updates in case of additional delays due to weather.
Motorists are encouraged to follow the signed detours during the closure to avoid congestion:

Maps of the detour routes are available on the Highway 65 website.

Resurfacing began in early April on nearly 16.5 miles of Highway 65 between County Road 10 in Spring Lake Park and 217th Ave. in East Bethel. Additionally, MnDOT will replace bridges over Coon Creek in Ham Lake and the culverts south of Viking Blvd. and north of Constance Blvd. Full-depth pavement repairs will correct areas of settlement and high-tension cable median guardrail installed between Bunker Lake Blvd. and 237th Ave. will help prevent cross-median crashes. The 19-mile project includes drainage improvements, and curb ramp and sidewalk upgrades at 11 intersections between Blaine and East Bethel and replacement of signal systems at 85th Ave. and 93rd Ave. in Blaine. The project is anticipated to be complete this fall.

NOTE: Drivers who regularly use Highway 65, are encouraged to use an alternate route if possible, such as
I-35W or Highway 47 to avoid congestion and delays.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.
