Golf Links Drive detour at Highway 61 begins Oct. 3 south of Red Wing

RED WING, Minn. – Motorists traveling to Mississippi National Golf Course on Highway 61 south of Red Wing will be detoured beginning Oct. 3 while the road is realigned for approximately four weeks, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The work is connected with the Highway 61 bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railway, and will provide better sight distances and connection to Highway 61.

The detour routes are:

For northbound Highway 61 travelers:

  • Left onto Flower Valley Road
  • Right onto northbound Highway 58
  • Right onto Golf Links Drive

For southbound Highway 61 travelers:

  • Right onto southbound Highway 58
  • Left onto Golf Links Drive

Traffic will be detoured until late October.

The new Highway 61 bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railway is being constructed to the north of the existing bridge, which allows traffic during construction. The original bridge was built in 1955 and remains in use during construction. It will be removed in the fall after traffic switches to the new bridge.

The contractor for the $10.2 million project is Redstone Construction, LLC.
