Road work on I-35W and Hwy 13 in Burnsville begins April 14
Roseville, Minn. – According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, crews will begin work on the Interstate 35W improvement project between Cliff Road and the I-35/35W/35E split in Burnsville and the Hwy 13 bridge over I-35W starting April 14.
Beginning 5 a.m. Monday, April 14, Buck Hill Road will be closed between Co. Rd. 42 to north of Southcross Drive so crews can move a gas line. Motorists should follow the signed detour using County Road 42 to Burnhaven Drive to access Southcross Dive. Buck Hill Road is expected to re-open in early May.
Then at 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 16 the Burnsville Parkway bridge over I-35W is closed between the east and west frontage roads through October 2025. This closure is necessary as crews build a new Burnsville Parkway bridge, during this closure follow these detours:
- Westside of I-35W detour: Burnsville Parkway west to north County Road. 5 to eastbound McAndrews Road to northbound Nicollet Avenue to Burnsville Parkway.
- Eastside of I-35W detour: Burnsville Parkway east to south Nicollet Avenue to westbound McAndrews Road to south County Road 5 to Burnsville Parkway.
At 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, crews will reduce Highway 13 to one lane in both directions with head-to-head traffic over the I-35W bridge.
There will also be several ramp closures in the construction area throughout the duration of the project. For full details visit the I-35W Burnsville project webpage.
April through November 2025, there will not be an E-ZPass option between the I-35W split and Cliff Road in Burnsville for either direction of I-35W.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
