Work begins next week for Highway 71/23 Willmar Bypass resurfacing project
Lane closures begin the week of April 20; construction begins May 4
WILLMAR, Minn. – Motorists traveling on the Highway 71/23 Willmar Bypass will see early road work activity beginning next week as the Minnesota Department of Transportation prepares for year two of the resurfacing project.
- Week of April 13: Crews will complete seeding in areas where grading work occurred last season, weather permitting. This work is not expected to impact traffic.
- Week of April 20: Motorists should anticipate temporary lane closures, single-lane traffic, and reduced speeds as crews complete work on the crossovers and bypass lanes.
- May 4: Construction begins with head-to-head traffic.
Project Summary
The Hwy 71/23 Willmar Bypass project includes resurfacing the roadway with new concrete, updating guardrail and median cable, replacing culverts, and completing various safety improvements. Once complete, motorists will benefit from a smoother driving surface, improved drainage, and extended pavement life.
