Temporary Traffic Control - Train the Trainer

This one-day training course is used to certify personnel as temporary traffic control instructors. Upon successful completion of the course and examination, participants will be qualified to train employees in their agency or other agencies in the fundamentals of temporary traffic control.

Course is recommended for state, county, city, and consultant professionals responsible for the implementation of traffic control, including supervisors, lead workers, or any responsible individual who trains others in temporary traffic controls.

Course content

This course will go over the core requirements for temporary traffic control and will include principles and set up of temporary traffic controls. Curriculum will focus on the MN MUTCD standards and guidelines, including the Field Manual. Other subjects covered are: safe practices, flagging attire and responsibilities, work zone speed limits, temporary work zone signing, barriers, pavement markings, ped/bikes in work zones, and work zone inspection.

Certification expiration

Certification is valid for five years. The certification card specifies the expiration date.

Registration

All classes are in-person and available only at MnDOT facilities. It is strongly recommended attendees have a minimum of two years traffic control experience before registering for this class.
