Personal Safety
- Be responsible for your own safety and the safety of your co-workers. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Remember… No job or task is so important that it cannot be done safely!
- Monitor contractor operations for hazardous exposures to State Employees, contractor employees and/or public. Take prompt corrective behaviors to have unsafe behaviors, unsafe conditions and/or imminent danger situations corrected immediately.
- Promptly report all motor vehicle accidents and/or personal injuries to your supervisor.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn whenever hazards cannot be removed and/or projects have designated specific PPE as being required. PPE includes, but is not limited to: hard hats, high visibility soft caps and vests, eye and hearing protection.
- Walk clear of operating mobile equipment. Always stay in the operator’s sight. Before approaching equipment, make and maintain visual contact with the operator.
- Accessible areas within the swing radius of the rear of the rotating super structure of a crane must be barricaded.
- Appropriate fall protection must be worn when exposed to an unprotected fall exposure of six (6) feet or greater. While working over water, a life vest is also required.
- Excavations greater than five (5) feet in depth must have a protective system such as adequate sloping, trench box and/or shoring.
- Temporary electricity used on-site must be provided with ground-fault circuit interrupters or an assured equipment grounding conductor program must be implemented to protect employees from ground-fault hazards.
- Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that may get caught on corners, protrusions, or in moving machinery.
- Wear work clothes that provide protection against natural elements.
- Avoid misunderstandings where safety is concerned – discuss questions and concerns with your supervisor before you act.
